Stemming from in-depth operator feedback, the new Terex cabin on the CTL 272-18 luffing jib tower crane includes a comfortable work space for the operator, including a fully adjustable comfort seat. The cabin’s joystick controls feature a short stroke length to reduce arm movements and operator fatigue. Standard heating and air conditioning keep the cabin at convenient temperature, regardless if operating during cold winter months or the heat of summer. Large windows give the operator a panoramic view of the jobsite for enhanced visibility. In the event of a broken glass pane during operation, it can be replaced from the inside.
In a July 2017 whistle-blower lawsuit filed against U.S. Facilities, Duilio “Lou” Angelini, a former U.S. Facilities manager assigned to the Criminal Justice Center, contends he warned company officials of lax maintenance and dummied-up inspection reports for the courthouse elevators.
Designing a gearmotor application is tough enough in more or less “normal” conditions, normal here meaning something like room temperature and stable or typical humidity and altitude. Throw that application into an extreme environment and the design gets more complicated. But it doesn’t have to be. For anyone designing a gearmotor application in extreme ambient conditions, there are some guidelines that when adhered to will help ensure that the design succeeds.

“We’re one of the leaders in ATEX lifting equipment,” says Kraus. “We have very strong engineering capabilities here, and produce high-quality products.
The SL 35II will be used in Swan’s new factory which is dedicated to the offsite production of modular housing units. “It’s mobile and suits our requirements in design and movement,” explains Simon Ward, production manager of modular construction at Swan. “We wanted a flexible lifting approach for raw material delivery and finished products with large amounts of variation. The Shuttlelift gantry crane enables us to be flexible with our material handling rather than having multiple pieces of equipment to do individual functions.”
Power steering adds a device to one side of the rack with a hydraulically actuated piston inside. A rotary valve directs hydraulic fluid to either the right or left side of the piston – depending on the steering direction – which applies pressure on the piston and reducing the effort needed to move the rack. Electric power steering systems – which are slowly replacing hydraulic systems – replace the pump, valve and piston setup with motors.
You can toggle between four driving modes – sport, eco, comfort and individual. There’s another driving mode, the G Mode, but that’s explained in greater detail a bit later. The steering goes from a hydraulic system to a new electro-mechanical, rack-and-pinion steering control for 2019.
