Another development in the works is the Army’s improved turbine engine program (ITEP), to provide current and future Army Black Hawks and Boeing AH-64 Apaches with significantly more power, payload and range.
In Japan, transport and logistics company Nakagumi has added to its gantry capabilities with a T1402-4-39 Lift-n-Lock hydraulic boom gantry from USA-based specialist manufacturer J&R Engineering (J&R). Its first stage capacity is 700 US tons (635 tonnes) with four lift housings. Its second stage capacity is 470 US tons (426 tonnes) to a lift height of 12.04 metres.

Japanese manufacturer IHI has developed its new TS series with higher capacity models and delivered the first 27 tonne capacity JCC-TS750 units. Rope reeving has been simplified by decreasing the number of sheaves and pendant ropes. In addition, the sheaves are larger in diameter than, for example, the former JCC-V600 model. IHI says these design changes will increase the life of the wire rope by 95 %.
The mechanical printing mechanism’s industrial linear guide rails are rated up to 0.1mm in precise accuracy with a print resolution of 100 microns. The delta-style printer was chosen over a Cartesian set-up to reduce print times and allow for taller objects to be produced, with a patented worm gear motor with speed reducer capable of printing out complex designs. Perhaps most impressive is noting the Cerambot designers have eliminated the need for an air compressor, engineered to remove air bubbles from the mixture before extruding semi-wet clay, also resulting in a lower price.
Options are many, and the G63 I helm includes $500 worth of suede-like material on the meaty AMG-specific steering wheel, $850 for a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster (an analog speedometer and tachometer come standard), $1,300 in Black Flamed open-pore Ash Wood, a $1,500 carbon-fiber engine cover, $2,300 worth of Cardinal Red Metallic paint, a set of 22-inch multi-spoke wheels for $3,950, and the $7,200 Exclusive Interior Package Plus, which adds a frameless rearview mirror, suede-like headliner, a leather-covered dashboard, heavily bolstered massaging front seats with heating and cooling functions, diamond stitching on the seats and door panels, and special floor mats, bringing the total cost to $166,095 (including a $995 destination charge). Skip the extras, and the cost of entry falls to $147,500 – $23,000 more than the base price of the less powerful G550.
Careful placement of the refueling probe, weapons, radar, sensors and avionics at the front of the aircraft helped balance the larger fuel capacity, and the entire HH-60W airframe has been strengthened to address the new load paths and improve its structural life.
Last year saw BVS Cranes produce innovative machines for the ports sector. “In 2017 BVS Cranes designed and manufactured a special shiploader project for loading soda ash for the ships. With a 1,500t per hour capacity it was the biggest capacity shiploader manufactured in Turkey. BVS Cranes also designed and manufactured a 300t per hour capacity mobile shiploader for working together with the main shiploader. All manufacturing, installation, tests and commissioning were conducted by BVS Cranes. For this project, all the conveyors and silos were manufactured by our steel construction company BCES. “This year, we are currently following some underground projects, highway projects and harbour projects in different areas in the world.”
Competing Favelle Favco and Cornell diesel hydraulic luffers in this class meant only one or two fall operation would be accepted by high rise steel workers. Three fall operation was abandoned, partly due to a high risk of the hoist ropes twisting when operating at heights above 100 m. To help maximise rope life the design uses as few sheaves as possible between the hoisting winch and the jib tip section.
“Different voltages are used across the world,” says Kempkes. “So it is not possible to have all the combinations of different voltages with different hoists and motors in stock all the time. Instead, we keep the parts in stock and if a customer has an urgent demand for a specific part, we make it in-house.”
